April 23rd (Sat) Competion at the BadLands off road park in Attica, IN
http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/

Fees
to register with the park. $5
compete free
post comp beer/BBQ $5 (so that I don't have to buy all the food myself)

There is a camping ground at the facility and also a few hotels nearby. So you can ride the entire weekend Sat/Sun. Also Purdue campus is ony 30mins away and Indianapolis is like 40~50mins away. So get your friends/family and come out.

Rules: I think we will stick with simple UCI rules (ie pedal/bash resting = dab). I don't think we will mess with axel over the tape as we won't have experienced checkers. We will prob combine stocks/mods together unless there is strong objection to this. (If we do divide them up it will be by wheel size only)

Classes: Beginner/Sport/Expert We will have a some negative lines for Expert so if Pros show up they will have to take them.

http://www.observedtrials.net/album/showgallery.php?cat=549 Some riding Photos at the place

Edit: If anybody under 18 is showing up by themselves, you have to visit the park's site and get a parental consent form

I suggest to keep mod and stock seperate because mod and stock both have their advantages/disadvantages. Also some people ride mod and stock.

at least combind the expert class. if another pro level rider shows up on a mod bike we wont even be competiting against each other if you dont make mod and stock the same class.

I'll be there for sure. The badlands are awesome for riding, it's the rocky-est place I've seen in the typically muddy midwest.
A few pictures from the last comp can be seen at http://groups.msn.com/BackyardBicycleTrials/ontherocks.msnw?Page=1

There are 10 or 11 pages. The weather sucked, but the riding and atmosphere made for a great day.

Thanks Roman, (and others)

This Badlands place is real cool, I suggest to all trials riders in this region to attend.
The terrain is trials heaven for Indiana, and the people who run this park are real cool.

There will be some real cool awards donated for the top 3 finishes of each class. And also, Unicycles are welcomed!

Only mildly off topic...

The March issue of 4 wheel and off road magazine has a little 2 page article about the Badlands, and some pictures of people trying to drive Jeep type things on trials rocks.

I got some camping information regarding the event.
Tent -$7 per person
RV -25~30 (for four people)

They have hot showers/bathrooms
This facility is almost next to the main office, but is owned by different people.

Also there are a few hotels near by. Duncan might be able to host a few peeps as well.

Who's all going to Roman's comp in the BadLands the 23rd?

I'll be the guy over dressed with pads to protect myself from sudden encounters with unforgiving ROCKS!

And also I'll have my custom BarBQ bib for the after event feeding session.

I personally don't care if have one million speeds or just one. Since this is a fun comp and no prize money is involved, I am just combine classes depending on how many people show up. The sections will be made in such a way that a good rider can do well on a stock or a mod.

I am interested in coming but don't want to drive 5.5 hours by myself. I live in Lansing, MI so if I could meet up with somebody part way there and take one car or have somebody meet up with me here I may be in.

Ok so the event will be slated to start at 11 on Saturday. You have to first drive to the main office and pay the entry fee and sign a waver. Since the event is totally non-profit there will be no comp waiver as you are just riding in the park at your own risk. If you are under 18 and have to parent/guardian at the event you have to get a liability waiver from http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/ and get it signed by your parents.

After that proceed to the jeep trails. The people at the desk will let you know where to go. Since we are allowed to use a private drive to get the to the trails please try to carpool as much as possible to minimize traffic on that drive. (you can meet up at the main parking lot and then drive over to the trials).

The event will start around 11. The plan is to have 4 sections for beginner/sport/expert and have you guys do 3 loops. We will adopt simplified UCI rules and pedals/bashes will count as dabs. (unless there will be too many objections) Mod and stock will run at the same time but we will take a note on who rode what when making the final tally.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Also we will need a few voluteers to judge.

Since Purdue campus is 30minutes away we can also get a group ride giong there after the competition.

Is Purdue campus that good of a riding spot?

Is Purdue campus that good of a riding spot? It is like any other large campus I rode. Good place for large moves. Plus after riding natural all day people might want to ride urban.

Update,

Spooky C's Spooky has taken a Poopy! :wtc:
The word is he will be defending his Sport class lead on a Brisa b26, is it possible he will continue a successful ride?

Weather looks good for this coming weeks comp. I highly suggest to all, do not miss this comp the terrain is very cool!

One word, COLD! Lafayette was frigid and the wind was fearsome.
To show you how bad the weather was, a MX race in North Webster, IN was cancelled on Saturday, and on Sunday a MOTA trials event in MI was cancelled as well. So, I guess those who participated Saturday can be considered hardcore bike trials enthusiasts.

Ben Jones and Chuck Sherman traveled 4.5 hours from Cinci, Ohio to compete. I believe when Ben came to a Markley event earlier this year it was the exact same weather. . . hummm, maybe the temps are under Ben's control.
Austin Mullen and Michael Yergin rode in their first comp. The temps did not seem to effect any of them negatively at all.

I must mention that this was Brent Mullen's first comp in awhile and he rode very well. I think Brent has been riding trials as long as anyone in the US.

Once again we say "thanks" to Roman for organizing the whole comp, the weather was a handful, but we still had a blast! (not that he could control the weather, I guess:ugh: )

Eight brave souls:bigthumb:

Novice Class=
Austin Mullen 18 dabs
Michael Yergin 24 dabs

Sport Class=
Brent Mullen 37 dabs
Sam I'am 38 dabs
Chris Taylor 53 dabs
Ben Jones 54 dabs

Expert Class=
Chuck Sherman 44 dabs
Roman C 49 dabs

Hope Ben's hip is feeling better, as he took a hard hit during the comp.:Wavey:
