ok so ive been havin- alot of trouble w/ balancin- methods other that trackstand, and there isnt any real natural around, so what i did was i tied the handlebars so the front wheel wont move, and this is ok since im stuck ridin- inside anyways. i was just wonderin- if this is a -ood way to practice balance w/ pivots and stationary hops, or if its completely retarded, but i take it off when i -o for real rides so i dont think there is anythin- wron- with it. thanks

Tying your bike up so you don't have to worry about the balance, just getting the move?

Yeah, I did that too... it works. Learn how to rocking trackstand, then forget the ropes.

Help, Rocking track stand? Time to sound stupid. A track stand requires that you turn your front wheel to the opposite direction of your choco foot, and try to remain stationary using brake and front wheel movements. When do you start rocking? I've been trying to piviot or do the little rocking motion to keep balance, no success yet. A rocking track stand sounds like an intermidiate step to get to piviot, and may help me. I live in a little town where my neighbors keep wondering why I have to practice stopping so much. "Well he stops, then kinda stops sommore an I thin he mite be touched in the head" In other words there isn't any one around to help. Since I started at 43 I'm thinking I may be a little denser than the normal newbe. Any help is greatly appreciated.

JBINION, That so funny, The neighbors think your touched in the head!

I'm 37, BALD and have a beer belly, Im so worried that some one will see me riding!
I do my practicing way back in a gravel pit, It just dont look right when some bald guy is hopping around on his rear wheel at my age, or riding a bike with no seat, period.
But, then again look at all the buzz with grown men racing around in circles on XR50!

I've been trying to piviot or do the little rocking motion to keep balance, no success yet. A rocking track stand sounds like an intermidiate step to get to piviot, and may help me. Interesting - I find it easier to turn the front wheel towards my choco foot when trackstanding. You may want to try that to see if it makes it a little easier. This could be a case of "whatever you're most comfortable with" though.

In addition, I utilize small pivots and/or rocking when my front wheel is straight - much much easier that way. Try to think of it as your bike moving with your body rather than moving the bike around. I found it easier when learning this to start with a small endo first, then roll back on the rear slightly with the whole body, than roll forward into the small endo with the whole body, and repeat. All with the brakes locked.

Another method of maintaining balance is very small hops, which are much more useful when trying to balance on an object that your front wheel is resting on, for instance. Something else to practice - good times.

"Well he stops, then kinda stops sommore an I thin he mite be touched in the head" rofl - that's an awesome signature.

if you can do the pivot thin- do you need the rockin- stand as well? or are they the same thing? They are basically the same thing - think of the rocking stand as utilizing the smallest pivots possible. They're both good to have ingrained as sometimes you need the pivot to correct and keep balance, and sometimes you can get away with just a small rock.

Thanks,
I'll try switching front wheel direction. There is a group going to MT Scott in OK next month, I am going to go to try to take a few videos if no one objects.

I like your idea about using that as my signature, I think I'll do it.
