I recommend learning how to stay up before learning how to get there.

Find yourself a two foot tall wall...
Put your front tire on top of it.
Hop.
Lean back until your front tire gently takes off from the wall. You are hopping on your back tire. Congratulations.

There is a couple of ways that I use:
1. lean back and pedal
2.Just pull back
3.Lean back pedal and hop

Or just watch videos and pick up what they do.

Continuing with ThOrSHammEr3 suggestion, I also found it easier to get back onto the rear wheel by doing an endo, and then continue to pull back with a slight hop as you roll back onto your rear wheel.
