I've had a long string of Echo bikes over the years and they've all had Spanish bottom brackets. My current Ozonys and Arcade have Euro BBs that allow me to use much more modern and WAY better crank options. I've just gotten another Echo and I really don't want to run a crap ISIS BB and cranks again. Has anyone modded a Spanish BB to run modern cranks? I'm gonna try it, but the pieces to make it (hopefully) work are coming from all over and I don't have them yet. My plan is to get 37X24 bearings to press into the frame and use modified Shimano SLX cranks. The problem is the spacers. With a 68mm BB shell I'll need to make up 27mm worth of spacers to align the cranks. So far I haven't found any sweet cone spacers that would do the trick. Wheels Mfg makes 24mm spacers in 1mm, but they're $1 each and honestly 27 spacers is a little too ghetto even for me. Anybody got some sweet 24mm cone spacers or collars? 17mm driveside and 13mm non drive - or so I'm told. I'll keep you posted with my progress.
If you're referring to freestyle, Spanish BB is all but extinct unfortunately, I love Spanish BB personally over mid, but gotta take what you can get, unless it's custom.
All the BMX cranks I found were either 19mm or 22mm spindle; 22mm is the same as ISIS, but alas no 24mm. It seems like someone would make a Spanish to BB30 adapter because of the popularity of BB30, even in race BMX, but so far I haven't found any of those either.
I knew I wasn't the first. That's good to know, though. Felix, you know exactly what bike I'm going to mod to right? I just built the front wheel this morning.
So now I've got 2 Echos that don't use a crap ISIS BB. As per modtires suggestion, I used an Eclat BB kit that's made for 24mm spindle to mate up to my Shimano cranks. WAY lighter than the ISIS equivalent, but it would be nice to move the bearings outboard more to increase stiffness. Next time around I'll seek out the BB30 cup adapters and go that route.
I like euro BBs because you have the most choices available. You can run GXP, 22mm BMX, 24mm, or 30mm axles. And they're all readily available. My biggest beef with Spanish is that a wider bearing spread gives a stiffer BB and that's hard to do with Spanish.
I'm not to familiar with Trials as I've literally just gotten into it, but I come from bmx and I know you are after Washers/Spacers basically Spanish BB/Bearings, have a look at these sites as they might have what you need hopefully and good luck.
