Quite terribly boring around here now that it's corporate and fake brumottis are running around. Thought I'd bring back an old biketrials.com thread...
Just post photos of anything trials related from your day. New parts, places to ride, Tex Avery sex shots etc. with smart phones this should be easy.
My last two rides in Griffith park this week:
Graffiti ghetto Boulder land under a big beautiful California oak ;
Today's nice overcast shred zones;
Weighed my beast and was disappointed that it didn't break into the 12 kg realm
For Americans ;
Bleeding my front brake finally... Came from Shimano factory like shit mush pile, looking forward to excellence.
Cool! I don't think I've heard anyone complain about their Arcade. I love mine, but it's got terminal rear brake problems right now and laid me on my ass today; sore all over now. Front end moves are so much more fun at 74.5! I hope you're enjoying your Arcade.
Profile Elite cog? Not hardly! Started hearing that chain 'ping' that means somethings not right and I couldn't trace it. Finally realized my rear cog was at fault when it threw a tooth! I got the Profile freehub shell because I thought the Elite cogs would be fine, but I guess not. If you look closely, every single one of the cutouts is broken through! Next time I'll go with an HG shell so I have more choices. My King Kog is still strong after 2+ years. I got a regular CroMo Profile cog now and drilled it myself (like any good trials rider). We'll see how it holds up....
Well done on the sidehops! They are still a mystery to me. I tried a bit when I had a pure bike, but my good side is the disc side so I am incredibly reluctant to practice them now. On my bad side I can consistently nail about 16" to rear. When the Canadians come down, it blows my mind how they can do well over standing bar height!?! Basically higher than I can bunny or kick up to. Keep it up!
thanks!
So a new day sometimes brings new ideas and here it is: long point to point mtb ride Saturday, competition trials bike on the rocks plus in my yard Sunday, and today (Monday) my favorite skate park on the arcade, and I see needing the bikes for Saturday and Sunday, but after a day of trials (reacquainting mostly) now trying to trials the arcade today I have one conclusion which is this bike is not good for trials. It bunny hops great. maybe it manuals well? (this skill is still beyond me). and it does well enough on a pedalup and wheel swap (although the wheel swap may be purely due to super shortness of the bike- if you can stand with the front tire on the obstacle you can wheel swap it because the obstacle is not very high.
And this is from one day back on a bike that I could barely roll on for the first half hour (although it was comfy on the rear wheel immediately), the least expensive new 26 frame I could buy and a compromise on geometry (I was very happy with the inpulse blast X and can't see going back to such long wheel base and high bb as many comp stock bikes and 1080 and +65 of my echo are both outside of what I feel necessary and beyond what is comfortable).
That said 16 staying on the rear is pretty good! I can sidehop onto just over three feet (clearing it like the bar is much harder! I've got to get the rear up higher) and something just over half of that on the arcade....
found myself on the pogo stick to finish out the day after an easyish 10 miles on the mtb
